Our recommended walks in Hampshire
Immerse yourself in nature.
Dogs are always welcome at Hampshire Court, and we’ve taken some of the stress out of planning activities with a furry friend in tow. Here’s a few walks you can go on, by yourself or with man’s best friend
Bolderwood Circular
1 hour drive | Time: 45 minutes approx
Keep an eye out for wildlife. This is one of the easier walks in Hampshire, taking less than an hour overall. The Bolderwood Circular gives you the opportunity to see the local wildlife, including a herd of white deer, if you’re lucky enough to catch sight of them.
Dogs are welcome but must remain on leads.
Brockenhurst & The Tall Trees Circular
55 minutes drive | Time: 3.5 hours approx
Marvel at the majestic redwoods. Start in Brockenhurst village before meandering your way through part of the New Forest National Park. Check out the redwoods planted in the 1850s to create Rhinefield Ornamental Drive for the nearby manor house. You can also stop at Rhinefield Arboretum if you fancy a short break.
Dogs are welcome but must remain on leads in certain areas.
Otter Trail And Hawksley Memorial
35 minute drive | Time: 1.5 hours approx
Stroll down the river. Take in the sights of the beautiful River Itchen and through to Otterbourne Park Woods. Keep an eye out for the llamas along the way before you reach the Hawksley Memorial Garden. The path can get muddy during wet weather so make sure to bring your wellies. Dogs are welcome.
Hamble Ramble
40 minute drive | Time: 2 hours approx
Check out the coastal views. This is one of the better circular walks in Hampshire as you have the opportunity to have a short break when you catch the ferry over the water. As you walk along the water, see if you can catch a look at some of the fish trapped by the tide in the mudflats. Dogs are welcome.
Overton Jane Austen trails
18 minute drive | Time: 3 hour approx
Trace the footsteps of Jane Austen through the tranquil countryside of Overton and Steventon on this literary-inspired walking trail. The routes—ranging from a 2.5-mile loop to longer 9-mile circuits—cover lanes, footpaths and bridleways where Austen lived and wandered during her early years. It’s easy to access, rich in heritage and ideal for a peaceful stand-out outing.
Watership Down Circular Walk
28 minute drive | Time: 6 hour approx
For those who fancy a more ambitious countryside adventure, the Watership Down Trail offers a circular loop starting from Whitchurch Railway Station, winding across ancient woodland, chalk ridges and downland made famous by Richard Adams’ novel. Even if you only attempt a section of it, you’ll enjoy expansive views, literary connection and a real sense of space—perfect for active walkers staying at the hotel.
