West Green House Gardens in spring...

The gardens at West Green House are truly a sight to behold. Every spring a 190m river of irises blooms, crossing five bridges dripping with wisteria – you won’t see anything like it elsewhere. They also have stunning tulip displays, and you can even buy some tulips for your own garden.

Shop ‘til you drop.
Festival Place is a hub of activity, you could spend all day there. With plenty of shops, leisure activities and even a few surprise pop up events, exploring Festival Place should be on your list of things to do in Basingstoke.

If you’re looking for fun days out in Basingstoke, why not attend the local festival? Basingstoke Festival has been celebrating the arts for over a decade now. Spanning three weekends, you’ll get the chance to see street theatre performances, dance, visual arts and much more.
Chawton House in summer...

Visit one of the most important houses in women’s literature.
Chawton House, most famously known for its Jane Austen connection, holds several events over the course of the summer, including tours of the house and grounds, theatre performances, and even writing workshops.
Basing House in autumn...

Will you see the ghost?
Although he didn’t die at Basing, it’s been said that Oliver Cromwell’s ghost haunts this old Tudor house and has even been spotted a few times. Basing House was a Catholic stronghold during the English Civil War, and Cromwell successfully took control of it and won the war shortly thereafter. His ghost is said to haunt the original Tudor barn, so perhaps you’ll get lucky and spot him lurking.
Silk Mill Food Festival in autumn...

Check out the annual food festival at the Silk Mill where local businesses showcase their delicious food and drink – it’s one of the best places to eat in Basingstoke. There’s also plenty of activities to keep you occupied, including contests and some arts and crafts stalls.

There’s nothing quite like the feeling of wandering round a Christmas market. Browse the stalls of local artisans, you’ll find one-of-a-kind pieces perfect for gifting to you loved ones. There’s also a chance to meet Father Christmas, as well as lots of other fun activities.
