The gardens at West Green House are truly a sight to behold. Every spring a 190m river of irises blooms, crossing five bridges dripping with wisteria – you won’t see anything like it elsewhere. They also have stunning tulip displays, and you can even buy some tulips for your own garden.

Basing House in autumn...

Will you see the ghost?

Although he didn’t die at Basing, it’s been said that Oliver Cromwell’s ghost haunts this old Tudor house and has even been spotted a few times. Basing House was a Catholic stronghold during the English Civil War, and Cromwell successfully took control of it and won the war shortly thereafter. His ghost is said to haunt the original Tudor barn, so perhaps you’ll get lucky and spot him lurking.
